Red-Listed Brook Trout Population Restoration Project

Since 2016, the National Wildlife Agency has been implementing a project focused on breeding the Red-Listed brook trout (*Salvelinus fontinalis*), a species included in Georgia’s Red List.

The brook trout was added to the Red List in 2006. The agency has been working on breeding various species populations and stocking rivers with them. A 160 m² breeding facility was constructed with brook trout incubators and hatchery pools. This facility allows the agency to spawn over 500,000 trout fry annually.

In 2024, the National Wildlife Agency stocked up to 33 rivers and lakes with nearly 835,000 brook trout fry and larvae. Monitoring of the released fish is carried out using photo and video traps.
