Brook trout eggs have been released into river tributaries in Chokhatauri Municipality

Red-Listed Brook Trout Population Restoration Project

With the organization of the National Wildlife Agency and the involvement of specialists, 20,000 fertilized eggs of the Red List species — brook trout — were released into river tributaries in Chokhatauri Municipality.

The fertilized trout eggs will undergo the final stage of incubation under natural conditions.

The release of brook trout eggs and larvae into the wild is a conservation method that supports the reproduction of this vulnerable species and significantly increases the success of natural hatching.

The brook trout reproduction project for the Red List species has been implemented by the National Wildlife Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture since 2016.

Brook trout was included in Georgia’s Red List in 2006 and is classified as a Vulnerable species.
To support its reproduction, since September 2016, the Legal Entity of Public Law — National Wildlife Agency under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture — has been implementing a project that provides for the annual production of up to 500,000 juveniles and the replenishment of rivers.

According to the 2026 plan, rivers will be replenished with a total of 700,000 fertilized eggs.
