In Ozurgeti Municipality, in Likhuri village, tributaries of the Achi River were stocked with brook trout eggs
Red-Listed Brook Trout Population Restoration Project
Specialists of the National Wildlife Agency released 20,000 fertilized eggs of the Red List brook trout into tributaries of the Achi River in Likhuri village, Ozurgeti Municipality.
The fertilized trout eggs will undergo the final phase of incubation in the wild.
The release of brook trout eggs and larvae into natural habitats is a method that supports the reproduction of a vulnerable species and maximizes the success of natural hatching.
The brook trout breeding project for this Red List species has been implemented by the National Wildlife Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture since 2016.
According to the 2026 action plan, river stocking will be carried out using a total of 700,000 fertilized eggs.
