Racha's rivers have been spawned with 40,000 brook trout eggs, a species in the "Red List"

Red-Listed Brook Trout Population Restoration Project

Brook/river trout was included in Georgia’s "Red List" in 2006 and has been classified as a vulnerable species. To support the reproduction of brook trout, since September 2016, the National Wildlife Agency under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has been implementing a project that involves the production of half a million fry annually and the restocking of rivers.  

The release of brook trout eggs and larvae into the wild is a method that promotes the reproduction of species and maximizes the natural hatching process. This approach has been successfully applied in several European countries.  

The process of spawning Racha’s municipal rivers with 40,000 eggs of "Red List" brook trout was attended by the Head of the Biodiversity and ForestKarlo Amirgulashvili, Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Karlo Amirgulashvili, the Head of the; Beso Kusidi, Beso Kusidi, the State Representative; Papuna Margveladze,i and Kvemo Svaneti, Papuna Margveladze, as well as rangers.  

It is noteworthy that one of the priorities of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is the conservation and restoration of biodiversity and the preservation of ecosystems in their pristine state, for which numerous significant projects are being carried out.
