A working meeting was held at the National Wildlife Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, during which the working version of the draft Law of Georgia on Hunting was discussed. The draft was presented by the Head of the National Wildlife Agency, Revaz Bezhuashvili.

“Under the new regulation, a certified hunter will hold a hunting certificate recognized by the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC). The new law will introduce the best European practices in the field of sustainable wildlife management in Georgia, which will contribute both to the restoration of game species populations and to the reduction of poaching. It will also provide for the propagation of native species, the preliminary planning of hunting farms, the designation of public hunting grounds, and the authorization of hunting of native species through individual licenses,” said Revaz Bezhuashvili.

The new Law on Hunting will support the introduction of a sustainable hunting system. The purpose of the draft law is to ensure the sustainable management of game species and their habitats; promote the development of the economic potential of the hunting sector; preserve hunting traditions and establish a hunting system based on the principle of social equality; and conserve Georgia’s biodiversity, in particular by increasing the populations of certain fauna species through inventory, monitoring, and propagation measures.

The draft Law on Hunting was prepared at the initiative of the National Wildlife Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, with the involvement of Georgian and international experts.
